The Shepherd's Crook.

The Shepherd's crook - a long, sturdy stick with a hook on one end, often with a point flared outwards - used to manage and sometimes catch one of the flock.

Shepherding is synonymous with Penistone and the rolling Pennine Hills around us here at the forge. For any followers of our social media you will see we recently had the English National Sheepdog Championships right here on our doorstep in Millhouse Green. An incredible event showcasing over 150 of the best shepherds and sheepdog in the country.

We also have our own 'Penistone Sheep' - the Whitefaced Woodland and the team are busy making preparations for this year's 150th anniversary Penistone show where sheep as well as many other farming livestock will be on show. So come along and see our #happyblacksmith in action as we demonstrate our skills.

In the meantime, here's some shiny close-ups of our Shepherd's crook table lamps. We use the decorative version of a crook shape in a number of our hand forged pieces - the design makes a wonderful curtain pole finial as well as being used on a range of lamps and chandeliers - all available to order at nigeltyas.co.uk and made to order for you.
