The right lighting can transform a space. It creates atmosphere, draws people together and can become part of the character of a building.
For restaurants, pubs, bars, hotels and other distinctive commercial spaces, hand-forged lighting brings warmth, texture and a sense of permanence to an interior.
Every Nigel Tyas light is made to order in our Suffolk forge, using traditional blacksmithing techniques and the skills of experienced makers. From a single feature light to a large bespoke chandelier, each piece can be made to work with the space.
Lighting is an important part of how a space feels, whether the setting is an intimate country pub, a busy restaurant or a grand historic building.
Nigel Tyas lighting can be found in some wonderfully individual places, including the Woolpack on ITV's Emmerdale, the Packhorse community pub near Bath and the White Horse Inn in Suffolk.

Each setting brings its own character and its own requirements. Traditional wrought iron lighting can feel as though it has always belonged in an historic building, while a more contemporary design can provide a striking focal point in a modern interior.
The result is lighting that does more than illuminate a room. It becomes part of the atmosphere and character of the place.
Every Nigel Tyas light begins life in the forge.
Steel is cut, heated, shaped and assembled by skilled makers, using traditional blacksmithing techniques that have changed very little over generations. Once the ironwork is complete, each light is wired in our own electrical workshop.
There is no production line and no substitute for the eye and hand of the maker. Making to order also means that size, proportions, finish and configuration can be considered around the requirements of your space.
Hammer marks, softened edges and subtle variations are part of the character of hand-forged iron. These are the details that show a piece has been made by hand rather than mass-produced.

For a large room, high ceiling or special occasion venue, a statement chandelier can completely change the feeling of a space.
Nigel Tyas chandeliers can be made in a wide range of sizes and configurations, with proportions carefully considered to suit the architecture and setting.
Wedding venues including the Maiden's Tower at Leeds Castle in Kent, Crockwell Farm in Northamptonshire and Hooton Pagnall Hall in Yorkshire are all lit by large Nigel Tyas chandeliers.
These are pieces designed to make an impression both when illuminated and when they stand quietly as part of the architecture.

Hand-forged ironwork is wonderfully versatile. The warmth and character of traditional craftsmanship can sit naturally within an historic building, while the same material can create a striking contrast in a contemporary interior.
Projects have included handmade bar lighting for Buxton Roastery, pendant lighting for more than 50 Hotter Shoes shops across the UK, and dramatic flambeau-style wall lights for the London Trocadero.

Nigel Tyas Ironwork has a long history of creating distinctive hand-forged lighting. Today, that tradition continues in our Suffolk forge.
The Nigel Tyas name remains rooted in the designs and craftsmanship that made the brand so well known, while a new generation of makers continues to bring those ideas to life.
