Nigel Tyas Ironwork Collaborating With Sheffield Hallam University
Posted by Gareth Lowe - 01 April 2022Nigel Tyas Ironwork are thrilled to participate in the 2022 CoLAB design project at Sheffield Hallam University. The project allows a mix of Product Design and Interior Architecture undergrad students to work in small groups to deliver a fast paced/short deadline project for a real commercial customer. We sit alongside other local businesses or companies with Sheffield outlets including IKEA and from a briefing last Monday the students have until next Friday to deliver the outcome.
In our case, the working group were asked to consider the importance of Blacksmithing today and how to preserve the craft in contemporary product design. They propose to create a short video showcasing how our handmade ironwork table lamps are a product that can work in multiple settings and last a lifetime. They’ve visited the forge to see items being handcrafted and learnt a little about forging techniques as well as taking away their favourite item from the showroom to add into a virtual surrounding using the software they have access to in the university design studios.
We are excited to see what the finished piece looks like and we will share across our social channels in the near future. IG @nigel_tyas_ironwork Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/nigeltyasironwork
