Forging Skills That Come With Experience

Whilst this jumble of scribbles and numbers might not make sense to you, the happy blacksmith always has his French chalk at hand and these annotations were part of ensuring the ‘gain’ on a cottage pole is accurate.

Starting with a stock steel bar and forging a taper at each end then curling the finials into shape and all the while ensuring the finished article fits the customers window as expected, is a skill that comes with experience.  Our workshop team have over 30 years blacksmithing knowledge and experience - passed down from Nigel, our company founder and name sake, who had over 50 years experience himself. We still make things in a tradtional manner - each customer order treated individually and made to measure by hand with care and attention. Each piece of steel is slgihtly unique and that patina and texture from the forging, carried through to a luxurious wax coating applied by hand is what makes our items special.
