The Maythorne collection is an original Nigel Tyas design, bringing together flowing, hand-forged ironwork with an organic, sculptural form. The collection includes two pendant lights and a distinctive wall light, each individually made by skilled blacksmiths in our Suffolk forge. With their twisting tendrils and sweeping curves, Maythorne lights bring a strong sense of craftsmanship and character to both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Hand-forged wrought iron lighting

The Maythorne collection takes its inspiration from the natural movement of climbing stems and tendrils. Each light is formed from iron that is heated, drawn, twisted and shaped by hand, creating flowing curves that give the collection its distinctive character.

The Maythorne pendant is the smaller of the two pendants, with three twisted iron tendrils curling around the exposed bulb. Its relatively compact size makes it particularly versatile, whether hung individually or arranged in groups of three or more above a kitchen island, dining table or other focal point.

The Maythorne Large pendant develops the same design on a more substantial scale. Four hand-forged tendrils twist around a large globe bulb to create an open, sculptural form. Hung individually, it makes a striking centrepiece in a hallway, entrance, dining room or sitting room, while combining the two pendant sizes can create a varied and considered lighting scheme.

The collection is completed by the Maythorne wall light, where the flowing ironwork is combined with a handblown glass shade. Its sweeping curves and distinctive spiral bring the same sculptural quality to the wall, working equally well as an individual feature or when used in pairs.

Although each Maythorne light follows the same design language, the individual pieces are shaped by hand, so subtle variations in the forged tendrils are part of their character. Rather than the uniformity of mass-produced lighting, each piece carries the evidence of the blacksmith's work.

Made to order in our Suffolk forge, the Maythorne collection combines traditional blacksmithing skills with a distinctly contemporary approach to form. The result is a range of wrought iron lights that can be used individually or together, bringing continuity, texture and craftsmanship throughout an interior.
