Maythorne Large Hand-Forged Wrought Iron Pendant Light
Handmade to order in our Suffolk forge, the Maythorne Large is a striking sculptural pendant formed from four flowing strands of hand-forged iron. Twisted in alternating directions around a large globe bulb, the entwined tendrils create an organic, open form that makes a dramatic centrepiece without overwhelming the room.
Estimated lead time - Approx. 6 weeks.
* The drop is the measurement from the ceiling to the bottom of pendant. The minimum drop is when the pendant is attached directly to the Ceiling Rose.
The Maythorne Large takes the distinctive form of the Maythorne collection and gives it presence. Four strands of steel are forged into flowing tendrils, twisting in alternating directions to create a loose, organic form around the bulb.
The iron is heated, drawn, twisted and shaped by hand, with the blacksmith carefully controlling the form as each strand develops its movement. The result is a pendant that feels almost botanical in its shape, while retaining the strength and substance of forged iron.
At approximately 400mm in diameter, the Maythorne Large has enough presence to become a focal point in its own right. Its open structure allows light to pass freely through the ironwork, while the large globe bulb becomes an integral part of the design.
The Maythorne Large works particularly well as a statement pendant in a hallway, dining room, sitting room or entrance. Hung individually, it creates a strong sculptural centrepiece. It can also be used alongside the smaller Maythorne pendant or paired with Maythorne wall lights to create a considered lighting scheme throughout a room.
Each pendant is individually hand-forged, so the precise shape of the tendrils will vary subtly from one piece to another. These small differences are part of the character of the Maythorne and evidence of the hands that made it.
The Maythorne Large, smaller Maythorne pendant and Maythorne wall light share the same distinctive language of flowing, twisted ironwork, allowing them to be used together throughout an interior. See the Maythorne collection.
