Designer-maker Nigel Tyas has added a distinctive new design to his range of handmade wrought iron lighting.
The Maythorne pendant light has been launched by Nigel Tyas Ironwork and is now available to buy direct from the company.
The Maythorne’s delicate handmade design incorporates tendrils of steel entwined in a fluid spiral around an LED squirrel cage bulb, finished with tiny curls top and bottom.
The Maythorne pendant light follows the success of the Maythorne wall light designed by Nigel in 2013 which has become one of the company’s top sellers.
It is handmade by Nigel and his team of experienced blacksmiths using traditional metalworking tools and techniques.
The Maythorne spiral measures approximately 225mm in height and 185mm wide at its base (there may be slight variations due to its hand-forged nature). It comes in a choice of natural black or light burnished steel finish and hangs from a 90cm diameter ceiling rose, with up to a metre of silk braided cable in a choice of colours.
The Maythorne fits a standard bayonet cap (BC) bulb fitting and is recommended for use with an attractive LED filament squirrel cage bulb (sold separately) which gives a warm light of about 350 lumens strength.
Priced £165 for the single pendant, it is available from www.nigeltyas.co.uk or call 01226 766618 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Nigel Tyas said: “The Maythorne is one of our contemporary designs and has a delicate appearance with natural sweeping lines encasing the bulb and creating interest and effect when the light is both on and off.
“Lighting design has developed so much since I first started creating wall lights and lamps in 2000 as LED bulbs have become more readily available and so much more attractive. The bulb is now part of the design and not just the functional element of the product.”
Nigel Tyas Ironwork is based in the village of Millhouse Green in the south Pennines near Sheffield.
The small craft company was founded by industrial blacksmith and designer Nigel and his partner Elizabeth Stocker in 2000 and now sells direct to customers across the world. It has built a reputation for quality, authenticity and craftsmanship over the last 17 years and all its original designs are developed in-house by Nigel and the team.
All of Nigel Tyas Ironworks’ products carry the prestigious ‘Made in Sheffield’ mark which recognises the quality of manufactured products and celebrates the company’s close association with the city’s metalworking heritage.
