We know the Orde-Powletts, and&nbsp;would like to shine a light on their visitor attraction today as Covid restrictions lift and people plan eagerly-anticipated days out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This spring, the castle\u2019s gardens are open and, as well as offering spectacular views over the beautiful Wensleydale valley, there\u2019s a herb garden, rose garden and dyers\u2019 garden to explore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"646\" height=\"386\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nigeltyas.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Bolton_Castle_gardens.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-301\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nigeltyas.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Bolton_Castle_gardens.jpg 646w, https:\/\/www.nigeltyas.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Bolton_Castle_gardens-300x179.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 646px) 100vw, 646px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s also a traditional \u2018Mary garden\u2019 in which all the plants are dedicated to the Virgin Mary and a fascinating square of newly-created Medieval-style flower beds featuring plants associated with potions and spells in days of yore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For added interest, there\u2019s a maze, a vineyard, twice daily falconry displays and the chance to watch wild boar being fed! The wild boar were reintroduced to the estate by Tom\u2019s father, Harry, the 8th Baron Bolton, and are part of the family\u2019s long commitment to the countryside, conservation and nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"636\" height=\"429\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nigeltyas.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Tom_and_Katie_inside_Castle_bolton.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-302\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nigeltyas.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Tom_and_Katie_inside_Castle_bolton.jpg 636w, https:\/\/www.nigeltyas.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Tom_and_Katie_inside_Castle_bolton-300x202.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nigeltyas.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Tom_and_Katie_inside_Castle_bolton-370x250.jpg 370w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later this year,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.boltoncastle.co.uk\/\">Bolton Castle<\/a>&nbsp;will feature as a location in a new Channel 5 historic drama, Anne Boleyn; adding to its TV and film credits which include All Creatures Great and Small, Heartbeat and the Oscar-winning Elizabeth, starring Cate Blanchett.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This privately-owned castle is not supported by charities like English Heritage and the National Trust, so every penny spent on its upkeep has to be earned by the family. Just as we are committed to keeping alive traditional blacksmithing skills, we also believe it is so important to sustain and support historic properties like this.
