how to order a straight curtain pole

wrought iron curtain pole measuring guide for straight curtain pole

  1. Choose the diameter & length of pole that you require using the diagram below – please don’t include the length of the finials in your measurement.

  2. Choose the style of finials required.

  3. Choose the style & number of brackets required.

If you are unsure about the best brackets to use please call, we will be pleased to help. We normally recommend a vertical or horizontal bracket at each end of the pole & a central support bracket for poles between 2m & 3m in length. For longer poles needing more than one support bracket you will need to use hook brackets along with open curtain hooks which allow the curtain to run past the supports.

  4. Choose curtain rings or hooks if required – we recommend a minimum of one ring/hook per 10cm of pole.

  5. Select a finish for your curtain pole & accessories

how to order a
bay window pole

All bay poles are supplied in two pieces. You will require a minimum of three brackets for your pole – a vertical or horizontal bracket at each end & a horizontal support bracket to cover the centre joint. For larger bay poles it is recommended that two or more hook brackets are also used to give additional support. We will advise on the number & type of brackets required when we receive your measurements.

In order to accurately produce the angles required for the pole we will need a number of dimensions. Please use the diagrams below to take the necessary measurements – measure as accurately as possible at the top of the window next to the wall – we will make the necessary adjustments to allow for the brackets & we will always contact you if we have any queries.

Complete the appropriate diagram & mark the positions where the finials should start and where you would like the brackets to fit. Where hook brackets are required this is essential in order that the pole can be drilled to take the brackets.

If your window is a different shape to those shown below, please call us & we will advise on the measurements that we will need.

We will also need a paper template of the angles in the bay. These can be produced as follows :-

Using wallpaper or something similar, push the paper to the back of the window recess & fold to fit the shape of the bay. Cut away excess paper to leave a template the same shape as the bay.

Alternatively, we can send out an angle gauge to help you to measure the angles if required. This comes with full instructions & is free of charge.

Once you have the required measurements, please select either 16mm or 22mm diameter pole & then choose the finials, brackets, rings & finish as for the straight curtain pole.

All bay poles are priced individually. A full itemisedquotation can be provided free of charge once we receive your approximate requirements - please call or email for more information.

wrought iron curtain pole measuring guide for self closing portieres

self-closing portiere

wrought iron curtain pole measuring guide for standard portieres
standard portiere

how to order a portiere
  1. Choose the type of portiere that you require.

The standard portiere has a hinged bracket which is mounted at the side of the door frame or onto the adjacent wall & is operated manually.
The self-closing portiere has a hinge assembly which attaches directly on to the door frame or onto the adjacent wall & a support bracket on the door which enables the curtain to open & close with the door.
  2. For a standard portiere, choose either 12mm or 16mm diameter pole.
  3. Calculate the required overall length for the portiere using the diagram shown.

Note that for a standard portiere the wall bracket measures 40mm wide by 180mm long. For a self closing portiere the hinge bracket measures 30mm wide by 80mm long. These can be altered as required.
  4. Please tell us if the main bracket will be mounted on the wall at the side of the door, on the door frame itself or onto the adjacent wall & also the distance from the wall to the front of the door architrave. This will enable us to make the portiere with enough depth to clear the door frame.
  5. Choose the finial style & number of curtain rings if required.
  6. Select a finish for your portiere.
