Disappearing Acts - Being a blacksmith - The Guardian, 17th April 2010
Our thanks to Jon Henley and Christopher Thomond for their recent article and audioslideshow about 'Being a blacksmith'. The article includes an interview with Nigel first published in the Guardian on the 17th April 2010 and a demonstration of the skills required to make our ramshead toasting forks.
A blacksmith's skills have not changed since prehistoric times, says Jon Henley: they require an artistic eye and a command of red-hot metal.

Sadly Paul Barcroft, our supplier of beautiful handmade glass has decided to leave glass making for a new career in teaching. As one of this country's leading glass makers Paul has supplied us with a stunning range of fabulous glass over the last few years and we will miss working with him. We wish him well in his new role.
We are currently on the look out for a new supplier but in the meantime unfortunately we are no longer able to supply our range of glass lamps and apologise to any customers that this affects.
We have a very small amount of stock glass so if there is a specific light that you would like, please contact us and we will do our best to help.
Made in Sheffield - January 2009
Our business has recently been awarded the 'Made in Sheffield' mark. It has always been one of the driving forces behind our business to strive to keep traditional metalworking skills alive in the UK. We are lucky to have the steel centre of the world 16 miles down the road from us and we're proud to be associated with Sheffield's metalworking heritage.
Many businesses outsource their manufacturing overseas where labour is undoubtedly cheaper but we have always worked hard to source as many of our components as possible from the local area and all of our products are manufactured in our own workshop at Bullhouse Mill.

Electrical switches and sockets - Door and window fittings - Mechanical doorbells
Over the last 12 months our rapidly increasing workload has resulted in us having to make some difficult decisions about our product range.
We have decided to focus our efforts on our handmade lighting, curtain poles and fire iron ranges and have several exciting new projects in the pipeline - these will be shown on the website soon.
To free up more time to develop our new lighting ranges we have now withdrawn electrical sockets and switches, door and window fittings and mechanical doorbells from our product range.
We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause. It's always difficult to choose to stop making certain items but as always our top priority is to continue to keep traditional skills alive in the UK by handforging the highest possible quality ironwork in our workshop here in Yorkshire.
For customers who have ordered from these ranges recently we will do our best to supply additional items as required to enable the completion of ongoing projects. For more information please contact us on on (01226 766618) or email
